Michael Marold

Styria

Michael Marold cultivates grassland on the 18.5-hectare farm. The farm specialises in dairy farming with direct marketing of meat and raw milk. Eggs and, depending on the season, fruit and vegetables are also sold in the farm shop.

Commitment to biodiversity:

Farming in harmony with nature and animal welfare are very important to Michael Marold. As part of a nature conservation project, he planted some flower strips on the farm and also an area that he mows once a year. Michael Marold wants to show that even a dairy farm can take biodiversity into account. He also wants to explain why it is important to leave structures standing that may look sloppy to a layperson. He deliberately does not use artificial fertilisers on the farm. The Marold family organises excursions on the farm or ‘school on the farm’ to raise awareness of the importance of extensive cultivation of the land.
