Thomas Seebacher
Styria
Commitment to biodiversity:
A flowering and fruit hedge was planted on Thomas Seebacher's farm 20 years ago - around 100 different bushes of native species such as sea buckthorn and cornelian cherry were planted over a length of around 300 m. Birds, squirrels and insects find breeding grounds and food in the hedge, which has grown into a diverse biotope. Thanks to the hedge, Thomas Seebacher observed an increase in birds. As a convinced grassland farmer, he emphasizes the importance of meadows in binding CO2 and nitrogen. Thomas Seebacher also attaches great importance to late mowing to promote plant diversity; he only mows his areas in mid/late June. Various flower strips on his farm serve as refuges for biodiversity.
