Karl Gaß

Lower Austria

Karl Gaß's farm, which he has now handed over to his daughters, covers 100 hectares. The farm is mainly arable land, but wine is also grown and seven forest sheep, including their offspring, graze on the meadows.

Commitment to biodiversity:

Through his farming methods, Karl Gaß has created valuable structures in a landscape dominated by arable farming. For example, he created eco-value areas and planted hedges back in the 1990s when the thistle association was still in existence. He also contributes to the preservation of this valuable habitat in the municipality by mowing the Cnidium wetland meadows, which are often difficult to cultivate due to flooding. As chairman of the forest cooperative, in which middle forest management is carried out in the alluvial forest according to centuries-old tradition, he is committed to the preservation of nesting trees for black storks and white-tailed eagles.
