Markus Taibon

Tyrol

Markus Taibon is a mountain farmer and runs a 23-hectare part-time farm with his wife. A large part of the land is former mountain meadows, which are gradually being brought back into cultivation. In addition, 3 hectares of meadows are farmed in the valley.

Commitment to biodiversity:

Markus Taibon and his wife began reactivating the former mountain pastures on their farm four years ago. These areas are located high up in the mountain pasture area and can only be reached on foot. They have not been mown for many years and have therefore partially disappeared under bushes and young forest. The bushes are painstakingly removed by hand and the areas are then mown every year. In this way, Markus Taibon creates space again for an extremely species-rich, very rare meadow habitat. He also contributes to the preservation of many plant and animal species in the valley around his farm by mowing the hay meadows. He also maintains stone walls, shrubs and trees on his farm, thus creating many valuable structures.
