Stefan Schmidt

Lower Austria

Stefan Schmidt runs a 143-hectare arable farm with his family. He identifies himself as an organic farmer with full conviction. He cultivates early potatoes, maize, pumpkin, wheat and much more.

Commitment to biodiversity:

As an arable farmer, Stefan Schmidt is particularly concerned about soil fertility and soil-conserving cultivation. He therefore cultivates the soil on his arable land as little as necessary and as shallowly as possible. He also attaches great importance to planting green cover. This not only increases soil fertility and prevents erosion, but also creates a valuable habitat for insects and other wildlife. Stefan Schmidt is also happy to share his knowledge and experience of soil and soil-conserving cultivation with others, for example as a board member of the Boden.Leben association. Because - Stefan Schmidt is convinced of this - you have to be prepared to let nature into the farm. This involves effort, can be risky and takes time, but it is worth it.
