Hildegard Burtscher

Vorarlberg

Hildegard Burtscher runs a 40-hectare organic grassland farm with dairy cattle farming at 900 metres above sea level.

Commitment to biodiversity:

At the beginning of the "Großes Walsertal" in Vorarlberg, Hildegard Burtscher and her family run an extensive dairy farm at 900 metres above sea level. Living and working in the cycle of nature and mindfulness towards everything that lives and thrives take centre stage here. The steep slopes of the farm are all still dependent on manual labour and are tended by the family. Special attention is paid to biotopes that are about to be abandoned. These are also cared for, so that important habitats are preserved. Many trees have been planted around the farm in recent years and old trees have been replaced twice or even three times. This measure has had a particularly positive impact on the diversity of birds on the farm. For many years, Hildegard has been committed to the processing of organic milk within the framework of a cooperative, without which it would not have been possible to maintain the mountain farms in the dairy sector, and thus also the alpine farming. As a member of the Vorarlberg Nature Conservation Council, as well as a board member of the fruit and horticultural association and as a community representative, Hildegard shares her many years of experience with the region and connects people.
