Kerstin Reichmann-Schicker

Styria

Together with her husband, Kerstin Reichmann-Schicker runs a mountain farm comprising 26 hectares of grassland and 12 hectares of forest.

Commitment to biodiversity:

The mountain farm run by Kerstin Reichmann-Schicker and her husband is located in a side valley of the central Mur Valley. As career changers, they took over the farm in 2004 and developed it into a diversified breeding and direct marketing business. Kerstin's passion includes rare livestock breeds such as Huzulen horses, Pustertaler Sprinzen and Krainer sheep, which are all kept on the farm and the breeding and training of herding dogs (Border Collies). Mixed grazing (cow/horse/sheep) means that both owned and leased farms are managed. The permanent and mown pastures show a great diversity of species from many years of extensive use and are very rich in herbs. The land is managed with consideration for flowering events and is an important factor in maintaining biodiversity.
