Celebrating the occasion

May 22 is International Day for Biological Diversity. UNESCO launched this day of action in 2001 and chose May 22 because the UN Convention on Biological Diversity was adopted in Nairobi on May 22, 1992. The day of action takes place annually and aims to raise awareness of the importance of biological diversity. In short: it's the perfect day to introduce you to five very special people who are particularly passionate about biodiversity – our newly appointed Biodiversity Ambassadors 2025. Their farms are as diverse as their approaches to promoting biodiversity on their agricultural land as farmers.

On May 19, the first meeting of the 2025 Biodiversity Ambassadors took place at the offices of our project partner Erde & Saat in Steyr. Johanna Frangež, project manager of Farming For Nature Austria, warmly welcomed the five farmers to the circle of ambassadors. In addition to getting to know each other, the main focus of the meeting was on planning the coming ambassador year. Starting this year, the 2025 ambassadors will support the existing biodiversity ambassadors in promoting innovative and biodiversity-friendly farming practices. Through online kitchen table discussions or farm walks, you will have the opportunity to get to know them personally and engage in conversation with them in a relaxed atmosphere. So stay tuned, you will be hearing from them again soon.
