Franziska Lerch

Lower Austria

Franziska Lerch's 8-hectare farm mainly comprises grassland, which is used for hay and pasture for the sheep. The farm specialises in vegetable cultivation on 4,000 m2, seedling cultivation, seed production and the cultivation of grain varieties.

Commitment to biodiversity:

The main aim of the farm is to live, promote and bring diversity of species and varieties to the people. The farm grows 300 different types of vegetables, including 50 varieties of lettuce alone. Franziska Lerch and her farm contribute to both the preservation and further development of varieties through seed production of heirloom varieties and rarities, including for Noah's Ark, as well as breeding work for organic cultivation. Due to the predominantly small-parcel cultivation, there is a high diversity of structures and a wide range of flowers on the farm on a small area, from which insects and birds benefit. Franziska Lerch also keeps forest sheep, an old breed of livestock.
