Markus Hilber

Tyrol

Markus Hilber's farm specialises in livestock farming with Tyrolean grey cattle and Simmental cattle. His farmland consists mainly of grassland.

Commitment to biodiversity:

Farming in harmony with nature is very important to Markus Hilber. He manages the mountain meadows at over 2,000 m in a Natura 2000 area extensively without manuring and only mows them every two years with a scythe and sickle bar mower. This extensive management pays off: 156 plant species have already been recorded on the land. Markus Hilber does not use any artificial fertilisers on the meadows in the valleys, cultivates the meadows with a single cut and creates flowering areas and strips to promote biodiversity. He also does not use silage and does not carry out early mowing on his land. Mowing only takes place when the seed on the meadow drops out.
