Stefan Koch

Burgenland

Stefan Koch runs an organic arable farm. The farm area - overall 74 hectares - consists mainly of arable land, as well as grassland and woodland.

Commitment to biodiversity:

In addition to planting flower strips and grassland areas, all of which he cultivates as nature conservation areas and only mows later, Stefan Koch attaches great importance to soil-conserving cultivation: no ploughing and direct sowing, even though he runs an organic farm. As far as possible, only mixed crops are cultivated, almost all crops are under-sown and intercropped. Soil-conserving cultivation means that there is more life in the soil, which creates more space for nature and is the basis for healthy food. For him, it is important that nature conservation goes hand in hand with food production - there must be room for both.
