Vinzenz Harbich

Lower Austria

Vinzenz Harbich runs a suckler cow farm with subsequent fattening and direct marketing of meat. The organic farm covers around 150 hectares, with the proportion of arable land and grassland roughly equal.

Commitment to biodiversity:

Vinzenz Harbich shows that open land grazing can be carried out economically in the lowlands of arable farming areas. This is despite the fact that the timing, stocking rate and grazing strategy are strongly orientated towards nature conservation criteria. This makes a significant contribution to the preservation of valuable habitats, including nature reserves such as the Weikendorfer Remise. By planting site-adapted hedges and agroforestry areas, he creates further valuable structures that not only serve as refuges for wild animals, but also provide useful shade for his cattle.
