Georg Kanz

Carinthia

Georg Kanz runs a 67-hectare grassland farm, with a total of 26 hectares of grassland and 41 hectares of forest.

Commitment to biodiversity:

Georg Kanz is particularly keen to bring diversity to the surface. This creates visually appealing, diverse spaces of structural and species diversity from monotonous, uniform areas. As a qualified forester, he started in the forest on his parents' farm and has been converting the spruce monoculture into a species-rich forest stand for 15 years. When he took over the farm in 2023, diversity was increasingly introduced to the grassland areas: brushwood piles were created, hedges and fruit trees were planted and old grassland was allowed to grow - a diversity that was recognised by the successful breeding of whinchats in 2023, among other things.
