Jeanette Mayrhofer

Upper Austria

Jeanette Mayrhofer runs a 10-hectare organic grassland farm, which is home to highland cattle, grazing geese and fattening pigs. The meat from the grazing animals is marketed directly.

Commitment to biodiversity:

Jeanette Mayrhofer came to the Mühlviertel 12 years ago, where she runs a diverse organic farm as a sideline together with her husband. Highland cattle, grazing geese, Swabian-Hall pigs and Old Styrian chickens live on her farm. The year-round free-range rearing of the pigs and cattle with soil barn is a speciality. Many habitats have developed almost of their own accord thanks to the extensive farming methods, such as hedgerows, hedges and stone cairns. Permaculture elements such as the soil barns and three-dimensional land management with standard fruit trees provide shelter and breeding opportunities for animals. As a qualified agricultural engineer and herbalist, Jeanette has a great passion for animals and nature. She and her husband are happy to pass on their knowledge and experience to anyone interested in an alternative approach to farming.
