Klaus Grünberger
Upper Austria
Commitment to biodiversity:
Klaus Grünberger ensures the preservation of rare crops on his fields by growing old varieties of rye and spelt. Although these varieties only produce moderate yields, they are stable and reliable. Shepherdscress, Lamb's Succory and Narrow-fruited Cornsalad, among others, thrive on a specially planted wild herb area. This not only promotes rare plant species, but also animals such as Common Quail find suitable places to eat and retreat here - equally important for the passionate hunter. He manages a third of his grassland areas with one mowing per year, including valuable wet meadows.
